The St Luke's community

In this section you can get a picture of the people that make up the St Luke's community. People are involved with St Luke's at a variety of levels. From the stalwarts who are there every Sunday through to those who choose St Luke's as their place of worship on special occasions such as Christmas.

We have a mix of ethnicities including Pakeha (New Zealanders of European descent), Maori, African and Asian. We range in age from newborn to 80-plus.

On any given Sunday you'd expect to see around 75 people in the pews with about 15-20 children attending the Sunday School. In the past 12 months we welcomed twelve new members into the family of God through Holy Baptism. We celebrated two weddings and held two funerals in the church.

During the week St Luke's people undertake a range of paid and unpaid work. We have lawyers, civil servants, full-time care givers, clerical workers, scientists, economists, teachers, bus drivers, journalists and retired people - to name but a few occupations.

Most members of our community live in Wadestown and surrounding suburbs but a number travel from other parts of Wellington to join in fellowship and worship.
