In this section you will find information on the regular events held at St Luke's. If you want to see what is happening over the next few weeks check out the Noticeboard.
Sunday 10am EucharistThe New Zealand Prayer book is the basis for our Sunday morning services. The children usually join us for the opening hymn/song and then following a prayer go next door for Sunday School. They then return during the offertory song in time to participate in communion.
Music in our 10.00am Sunday service is a mix of traditional hymns accompanied by the organ and more contemporary songs lead by the music group. Members of the congregation participate as the worship leader, by reading scripture, leading intercessory prayers and assisting with communion. There is a time of quiet reflection following the gospel reading. The healing team is available at the back of the church during communion and after the service for those seeking healing.
Everyone is invited to morning tea in the Atrium following the service.
St Luke's is a family-friendly church. We love the buzz that comes from having lots of small children among us.
Sunday School starts at St Luke's for term 1 on Sunday 22 March 2009 - classes for those aged 1 year to school year 8, creche facilities available for babies.
All groups return to church in time to take communion with their families.
We would love your children to join us on Sunday mornings. If you would like more information about our children's ministry contact Megan Davis.
On Wednesday mornings, Eucharist (Holy Communion) is held in the Chapel (accessed from the cloister). It is around 45 minutes long. This is a low key, gentle service which follows a New Zealand Prayer Book. We usually sing a hymn. Children are always welcome and everyone is invited to morning tea after the service.
There are between two and three weeknight bible studies in progress within the St Luke's community. These are usually hosted in someone's home.
During Lent (the six week leading up to Easter) we run a series of studies that are only 6 weeks long. These are focused on a specific area of our faith journey.
Our study groups are a good way to explore scripture in a relaxed and supportive environment. To find out what is currently happening check the Noticeboard.
Wonder Tales is an interactive story telling experience that happens monthly for children 6 years and under. Held at St Luke's (in the church and the Atrium) it involves songs, stories, activities and values from the bible. It begins with afternoon tea at 3.15pm so that children can come straight from school, Kindy, or a sleep. Afternoon tea is followed at 3.40pm by songs and an interactive story told in the church. Children then explore the ideas raised in the story through their imagination and the activities provided. These are based around a non directed style of learning. Wonder Tales is held on the second Tuesday of the month. All children aged 6 and under and their caregivers are welcome. For more information on the next Wonder Tales check the Noticeboard or contact Jason Lubransky.
We are quite a social bunch at St Luke's and hold a range of events both for St Luke's and the wider community throughout the year. Our events range from those suited to young children to those that give adults a chance to socialise together. We also have opportunities for the whole family to have some fun together. Examples of social events include:

The group is untutored and any medium can be used apart from oils. Usually about 6 people attend. The group meets from 2pm - 4pm on the last Thursday of the month and the Thursday a fortnight before. A break is taken for afternoon tea midway through. There is no charge. If you are interested in joining contact Doreen Green ph: 472 7166
The craft group meets on the second Friday of the month from 7.30pm onwards. Participants bring along whatever craft activity they are working on (scrapbooking, knitting, crochet, embroidery etc) and enjoy a social evening together. The group usually meets in the Atrium in the St Luke's Centre but this may change. Check the Noticeboard for details.
The junior youth group is for young people in Year 2 - Year 7 (6-11 year olds). It meets on the third Saturday of the month for social activities with a Christian focus. Recent activities have included roller blading, games and singing in the hall, video and gym evenings. The group has also joined in with events organised for the wider church community such as the Lego evening and the Mad Hatter's Tea Party. For details of the next event check the Noticeboard.
